Our Wedding

Dress Code: What is formal?

Guests can wear their most formal attire or keep it more relaxed in a suit/blazer or cocktail dress. We'd love guests to use this to dress up to their comfort level or go all out. We ask guests to please avoid: jeans, shorts, tee shirts, flip flops, and similar casual attire. We also ask that women please avoid wearing white.

Is everything in the same location?

Yes! The ceremony and reception will both be taking place in the Ballroom at Greysolon.

Are children invited?

While we adore your children, to allow all guests to relax and enjoy themselves, we have chosen to make our special day adults only.

Will the bride or groom be changing their last names?

We will both be keeping our own last names (Laura Born and Collin Swertfeger).

Where should you stay in Duluth?

There is a block of rooms held at the <a href="https://app.marriott.com/reslink?id=1762366745188&amp;key=GRP&amp;app=resvlink" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Sheraton Hotel in downtown Duluth</a>. It is connected to the wedding venue via Skywalk. Booking at the Sheraton is highly recommended to ensure you can party safely. However, there are many hotels in the downtown and canal park area. A detailed list of alternative accommodations will be added later.

Please note that hotel check-in begins at 4 p.m., which may overlap with the festivities if you’re arriving on the day of the wedding. We recommend requesting an early check-in or arriving on Friday so you don't miss out on the fun.

Join us in the Ballroom on the second floor of the Greysolon Plaza. Greysolon is connected to the <a href="https://app.marriott.com/reslink?id=1762366745188&amp;key=GRP&amp;app=resvlink" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Sheraton hotel</a> by skyway, so guests don't need to worry about transportation.

Venue Details

First Date

Our first date in May of 2019 was so full of laughter and conversation that we didn’t want it to end. After the first restaurant closed at 11 p.m., we found another spot to keep talking. Luckily, the bartender recognized Laura from her childhood and let us stay an hour after closing. By 2 a.m., we knew this was something special.

It's Official

After a couple more whirlwind dates, we officially became a couple on May 30, 2019.

Duluth Beginnings

In July 2019, we took our first trip to Duluth, where we celebrated the Fourth of July with a bonfire on Wisconsin Point Beach.

Duluth Long Distance

In March 2020, Collin accepted a job in Duluth, MN, just two days before the world shut down for COVID-19. Although our relationship shifted to long-distance, we took turns driving every weekend to see one another.

Add Law School to the Mix

In 2022, Laura took a giant leap and started law school to pursue a career that could offer the flexibility to live anywhere. Despite the chaos between our jobs, law school, and weekend drives to see each other, we proved our commitment by finding ways to stay connected despite the distance.

Honey, we're home

In December 2023, we took the next big step and bought our first home together in Duluth.

We got the new homeowner experience pretty quickly. June 2024 brought a rainstorm that flooded our house and would take five months to fix.

Proposal

On July 19, 2024, Collin surprised Laura with a proposal on the same stretch of Wisconsin Point Beach we visited on our first trip to Duluth.
